Lincoln funeral train goes thru Coldwater! - HerbS - 03-22-2017 02:39 PM Here is an interesting story about the Lincoln funeral train-3.55am-4-27-1865-today-I got up very early to see the train containing President Lincoln's remains pass by on their way to Springfield,Illinois!-Elizabeth Booth Hinchey and family-Coldwater,New York! Coldwater is a hamlet near Rochester,NY-Coldwater got it's name from a train tower for trains to use coldwater for steam engines!-Very-interesting-indeed! RE: Lincoln funeral train goes thru Coldwater! - RJNorton - 03-22-2017 04:13 PM Very interesting, Herb. I can tell you that the pilot engine passed through 10 minutes earlier --> at 3:45 A.M. The funeral train had departed Rochester at approximately 3:35 A.M. Dr. Adonis of the Chicago Tribune wrote, "Since leaving Rochester we have passed through Coldwater, Chili, Churchville, Bergen, and Byron. At all these places were groups of villagers and country people who had come to honor the dead. The stations were becomingly draped with drooping flags and other mournful decorations." The above information is from Scott Trostel's excellent book on the funeral train. RE: Lincoln funeral train goes thru Coldwater! - HerbS - 03-22-2017 04:18 PM Thanks for the info-Roger! |
