Amiable Scoundrel - Rob Wick - 08-14-2016 05:23 PM There is a new biography of Simon Cameron, Lincoln's first Secretary of War called Amiable Scoundrel. It isn't a cheap book, but given that there hasn't been a biography of Cameron written since 1966 when Edwin Stanley Bradley wrote Simon Cameron, Lincoln's Secretary of War: A Political Biography, this is a much-needed update about the man whom Thaddeus Stevens told Lincoln, when asked if he thought Cameron would steal, replied "I don't think he would steal a red hot stove."
