New Lincoln statue at UIS - Angela - 05-10-2016 12:37 PM

Details are here

It's going to be a young Lincoln and the sculptor has already done some really fine work.
Also, he already DID a young Lincoln:

I wonder how many Lincoln statues exist...

RE: New Lincoln statue at UIS - Angela - 05-10-2016 01:36 PM

I have not counted them - but the trips I made in the last several years must account to several hundreds!

I found a 2009 article about a man from Illinois who is photographing every Lincoln monument in the U.S. and already had reached 200. His intent then was to publish a book entitled A Life Worth Remembering - The Monumental Legacy of Abraham Lincoln.

Thank you for posting this, Angela.

Here is the youngest Lincoln I know of. It is in Hodgenville, Kentucky.

I believe the sculptor's goal was to create Lincoln at age 7.

Can't wait to walk by it on my way to classes when I go to school there!

That is David Wiegers; a great photographer! He has pointed me to soooo many statues I never would have found otherwise. He also makes a super cool calendar every year of those.

Thanks for posting the article, Roger! I'd love to visit that statue plus the many other Lincoln statues that exist!

I have David Wiegers' calendar for this year (thanks to Angela!! Smile ). It has wonderful photographs and I've learned of many Lincoln statues that I didn't know existed!

The one I really want to see is Lincoln in the Black Hawk War.

Hopefully we can visit this on our next Springfield Tour on Sept 30 - October 1.
(And the Cozy Dog Drive In is conveniently located between the Lincoln Home and the UIL Springfield campus, what are the odds? )

Dave is a really great guy. I have unofficially served to alert him a couple times to statues I have found in Michigan.

I wonder if there's any president with more statues? (What about Washington?) I was going to ask you (plural) about your favorite statue, but despite I find it difficult to decide myself, I guess the memorial would rank top. So - which is your second favorite?

You've just made my decision more difficult to make...and I feel statues with Lincoln and cats are underrepresented!!! I feel a need for a statue of him feeding Tabby or cuddling the kitties at City Point

Ohhh, difficult question!
My second favorite would definitively be the Young Lincoln from Dixon.
And also, the smily Lincoln from Bloomington as well as the one in Hodgenvilly, KY, opposite to the child statue that Roger posted earlier.
I would be totally firm in my opinion if there wasn't the one in Richmond (with Tad) to consider as well as the majestic one in Bunker Hill OR the new one in Gettysburg.
Phew, Eva, you are right - hard to decide...
