Kudos to Harold Holzer on this. Before I wrote Eva, I checked at least 10 Lincoln books to try to find out about Robert on stage in New York. I even checked my books on the Lincoln inaugural train and also biographies of Robert. I drew a blank.

Kudos and thanks much to Steve for digging this out! I couldn't find/access it! It's interesting that Holzer obviously turned "he went on stage during the masquerade scene" into a guest role. (Is "going on stage during the scene" necessarily an entire role?)

We used to call those walk-ons, and they required no lines or even motion. Wonder if Robert was in masquerade?

In Lincoln President-Elect, Harold Holzer writes: "Robert Lincoln stayed behind [after his father left the opera] and actually appeared on stage, disguised in the climatic masked ball scene." (Footnote #19, page 575.)

Gene, I do not know. Possibly. But the reason she has been mentioned on this forum is for something different. It is related to the Lincoln family.

You are not mistaken --> good eyes, Rob! It indeed Catherine Clinton, the author of Mrs. Lincoln: A Life (and several other books). The photo was taken at the 23rd annual Lincoln Forum Symposium.

I remembered her from the time you were talking about the pistol that Lincoln supposedly carried to Ford's Theater. I emailed her to ask about it. She seems like a very nice person.
