A remarkable lady, however....I was reading some of the comments about the book. One writer stated Ms Walker graduated from a homeopathic medical school, not a regular medical college. Another stated she was not in the army, and had no contract with the 52nd Ohio regiment She was a volunteer camp follower. (It appears it was difficult for women to help during the civil war in other than domestic tasks)
I don't know if any of this is true. To me, this does not diminish her accomplishments, but she was not "mainstream" for her time and was a somewhat controverisal person who may have enjoyed the attention this brought her. Can anyone recommend some additional reading?
