Kudos, Roger, you are amazing! Mary's last trip (in fall 1881) was to NY to consult Dr. Sayre for orthopedic treatment as he was a leading surgeon in this field.

One of his accomplishments was to invent a new treatment of diseases and deformities of the spine by suspension and the application of plaster-of-Paris bandages.

Roger, you win a free treatment by Dr. Sayre.

Many thanks, Eva, but I think I better decline. I am too old for what Dr. Sayre seems to have in mind for a treatment. However, if you want to send best wishes for a USA victory today, then I wholeheartedly accept!

Good choice Roger!. But I do understand he's on the list of approved Obama care doctors. Confused
(Just don't be late with your payment like that poor young girl)

Gene, hopefully he was able to help Mary Lincoln. However, I am having trouble picturing her undergoing Dr. Sayre's idea of a treatment.

That you get anyway! I want them to win, too!!!

One person claimed that Abraham Lincoln gave him or her a basket of fruit on April 14, 1865. The claim is almost assuredly false. Who was this person?

Margaret Ryan

Brilliant, Anita!! Here is your prize:

Yummy! Thank you Roger.

Isn't Margaret Ryan the former maid who provided Herndon and his "informants" with some of the more lurid stories about the domestic life of Abraham and Mary in their Springfield years?

She also says AL gave her a fruit basket the day he died, eh?

Hi Toia. "Yes" to both questions!

P.S. In The Mary Lincoln Enigma Richard Lawrence Miller does an excellent job of discrediting her validity.

Thanks Roger.

This woman and her anecdotes are still used as primary sources by some very highly respected Lincoln scholars. It makes me wonder!

Who is this gentleman?

(Sorry for the poor quality - it's poor in the book already, and I couldn't find "him" online.)

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 07-18-2014 06:56 AM

Willie and Tad's tutor - Alexander Williamson?

RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 07-18-2014 07:07 AM

Brilliant guess, Roger, but not Alexander Williamson. I once tried to find a photo of him, but drew a blank.
Hint #1:

This is probably misleading as I bet you all will know him.
