Is it Gustavus Vasa Fox, assistant secretary of the Navy?

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 02-18-2014 11:11 AM

Excellent guess, David, but it is not Gustavus Vasa Fox.

John Hay?

Very good, Reignette. That is indeed John Hay (circa 1902). Good job!

(Thanks to Laurie who suggested the idea for this trivia question.)

I subscribe to a website on the history of Washington, D.C., and the latest email announces a new book by White House historian, William Seale, entitled The Imperial Season about the city at the time of the first real onslaught of ambassadors. The picture of Mr. Hay appears on both the website and in Mr. Seale's book.

Some folks just always retain a "familiar face" throughout the aging process and Hay's is an example of such. (Although he lost his trim physique.)

Leonard Swett?

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 02-20-2014 01:26 PM

Good try, Eva, but it's not him.

RE: Who is this person? - Rogerm - 02-20-2014 03:01 PM

Is it Joshua Speed?

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 02-20-2014 03:33 PM

Good try, Roger, but it isn't him.

RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 02-20-2014 04:08 PM

Thomas Gourlay at older age?

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 02-20-2014 04:16 PM

Another good try, Eva. Not him. Roger's guess is the closest so far.

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 02-20-2014 04:29 PM

I am sorry, Eva, but it's not him. Roger's guess is still the closest.
