RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 12-26-2013 06:14 PM

Simon P. Hanscom?

RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 12-26-2013 06:18 PM

Not him, Roger, but a very good guess! I could as well have posted the question on the "Assassination trivia" thread.

RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 12-27-2013 05:05 AM

Hint#1: Think April 14, 1865.

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 12-27-2013 05:58 AM

Joseph B. Stewart (the man who chased after Booth at Ford's)?

RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 12-27-2013 06:10 AM

Another good guess, but not him.
Hint#2: Don't think Ford's.

RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 12-27-2013 11:54 AM

Hint#2: He was on the margins of Good Friday morning.

RE: Who is this person? - J. Beckert - 12-27-2013 12:36 PM

Wild guess - William Browning?

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 12-27-2013 12:58 PM

I cheated, Eva. When you mentioned Good Friday morning I started looking at W. Emerson Reck's book on Lincoln's last day. And I found the man's picture on p. 11. It's Eli K. Price.

Who's Eli Price?

RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 12-27-2013 02:23 PM

Very smart, Roger, and since this question took trivia to the top and I can't recall reading his "story" anywhere else I don't consider it cheating!

Gene, here's an answer to your question:

This person was described as so "tight and compact" that "he never could find the points of separation between his ribs..."

A. Who was the person so described?

B. Who described the person this way?

RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 01-15-2014 10:36 AM

B. Well, the description sounds Dennis-Hanks-like, but
A. I don't know/recall whom (?) he would describe (if B. was right).

(A. The description would match Stephen Douglas, but the style of language somehow isn't in line with anyone I could think of to describe Douglas.)

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 01-15-2014 11:08 AM

Splendid, Eva! The description does come from Dennis Hanks. Very good. Now, whom was he describing? (It was not Douglas.)

Could it be Lincoln?
