Was he associated with Standard Oil?

No, Roger, he wasn't.

Next clue.

Tarbell was asked to consider writing a biography of him, but in the end did not.

"This gentleman had a connection to both Tarbell and Lincoln."

Rob, are you referring to Abraham or Robert?

RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia - Rob Wick - 04-13-2023 10:40 AM

Roger,
The connection, which is not a direct one, is to Abraham.

Did he run opium dens/facilities ?

Mike,

I've got to admit that you threw me with that answer, but I can assure you it isn't anything like that. His business was a boring old retail establishment.

Issac & Roland Diller of Diller's Drug Store ?

Isn't he the "source" in Ida Tarbell's "He Knew Lincoln and Other Billy Brown Stories" ?

I grew up in Oak Park, Illinois, and on the corner of Marion and Lake there was a Montgomery Wards during the 1950s. As far as I know, that store is long gone. For a young man growing up the store was very boring, and I never liked going there with my mother. So I will guess Montgomery Ward.

Sorry gentlemen, but neither guess is correct. However, Roger you are on the right track.

Sorry Bill, but it's not Carnegie.

I'm running out of clues so I think I will lift the Google restriction.

Rob, a friendly suggestion,
I think you might have better results if your clues and questions matched up better with our answers.
