Thanks-Herb Swingle RE: Confederate Soldier's Coin! - BettyO - 01-03-2015 07:49 AM Herb - is there a provenance to this; that it was in the pocket of a Confederate soldier at Gettysburg? I find online that these pennies range in price between $16.00 on eBay and about $169-$200.00 on other sites. The provenance would make the price sky-rocket.... Here are some sites regarding value: http://www.coinstudy.com/flying-eagle-penny-values.html http://www.pcgs.com/prices/priceguidedetail.aspx?c=664&title=flying+eagle+cent http://www.collectorscorner.com/Category/Category.aspx?catId=664 Wiki has an interesting piece regarding the "model" for the Flying Eagle coin; "Peter the Eagle!" Had never heard of this before.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Eagle_cent RE: Confederate Soldier's Coin! - HerbS - 01-03-2015 09:51 AM Thanks BettyO.The coin is in good shape[provenance],and the bullet and Gettysburg story makes it worth more? RE: Confederate Soldier's Coin! - HerbS - 02-14-2015 07:54 AM Success!-The coin[in a frame] sold for 200$ to a local Civil War collector. It was for charity at a Kiwanis Club fund-raiser. |
