Dead - Eva Elisabeth - 12-22-2014 05:27 PM http://m.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-30582761 Sad. These will live on eternally: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bRzKUVjHkGk http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wlDmslyGmGI Another (Austrian) legend (maybe "our" Frank Sinatra) had died yesterday: http://m.bbc.com/news/world-europe-30571366 My favorite "Udo"- tune and text: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9d33YUILvQ My poor attempt to translate: When a dream, any dream does not come true When love comes to an end If no hope exists anymore Just loneliness When a leaf, any leaf falls off the tree As the autumn wind determines When fate takes something from us Trust in time, Because: Always, always the sun will rise again And once again day will bring us a light Yes, always, always the sun will rise again Because there is no darkness forever There is no, there is no... When I hear a song, any song that we knew I still remember how wonderful it was We were happy then I realize Because you were here And if anyone tells you of me I had forgotten, then just remember, I believe in tomorrow And some day you'll be back Because: Always, always the sun will rise again And once again day will bring us a light Yes, always, always the sun will rise again Because there is no darkness forever There is no, there is no... RE: Dead - LincolnMan - 12-22-2014 07:07 PM Great talent-too bad. As a teenager in high school in 1969- I was asked by a buddy if I wanted to join him and a few other friends to "go to a party in New York." It was August. Sounded like a crazy idea to me. I declined. Turned out the "party" was Woodstock. My biggest regret was not missing Joe Cocker-but Jimi Hendrix! RE: Dead - HerbS - 12-23-2014 06:12 AM He was one of my all-time favorites! RE: Dead - Rsmyth - 12-23-2014 01:23 PM Hi Eva, I had never heard of Udo until you posted the youtube video. I actually liked it and downloaded it. Living about 30 minutes from Woodstock, my wife and I go to concerts there once or twice a summer. At the original, in my opinion, the most iconic memories were of Hendricks, Ritchie Havens and Joe Cocker. RIP Maddog. RE: Dead - Jim Garrett - 12-23-2014 08:35 PM I saw Joe Cocker at the Mosque in Richmond (I bet Betty knows where it is) in 1975. It was probably the lowest point in his career. While the prior Mad Dogs & Englishman tour was a critical success, Joe was taken advantage of financially and walked away broke and betrayed. He slipped into a downward spiral of drugs and alcohol. He was noticeably drunk/stone and yet, he pulled off a good performance. Shortly after this low point he met his future wife Pam and his life turned around. He was a very shy, self-effacing man and a great talent who never forgot his fans. As Eva can probably verify, he was wildly popular in Europe and still managed to sell out very large venues. He was a true English Gentleman. Rest In Peace Joe. RE: Dead - LincolnMan - 12-23-2014 08:58 PM Great post Jim. I understand that Cocker lived in Colorado? Or did he have a residence in England as well? RE: Dead - Jim Garrett - 12-23-2014 09:36 PM Google Mad Dog Ranch Crawford and you should find the Real Estate posting. $7.8. As some may well guess, Joe Cocker was my all time favorite recording artist. Unlike many of his "rock stars" he, by all acounts, was a very down to earth guy. No stupid antics, treated everyone well. There are two great videos of Joe doing "Cry Me A River". One from the Mad Dogs and Englishman tour and one from a few years ago. The neat thing is he has the same keyboard player, Chris Stainton. Chris also plays with Eric Clapton. RE: Dead - LincolnToddFan - 12-23-2014 11:50 PM I love his rendition of "The Letter", much more than the group who made that 60's song a hit. RIP Joe Cocker. Toia, I remember listening to that song in the car when I was a first or second year teacher. The group was the Box Tops. RE: Dead - Jim Garrett - 12-24-2014 06:27 AM Bobby Keys played sax on the letter. He just died a week or so ago.....cirrhosis. Yes! THE BOX TOPS!! Thanks Roger. I remember listening to it in the winter of 1967-68 as a second grader. I was on a road trip with my family, sitting in the back seat with my siblings. Good memories! (12-24-2014 06:27 AM)Jim Garrett Wrote: Bobby Keys played sax on the letter. He just died a week or so ago.....cirrhosis. Oh God..I didn't know that Jim. What a horrible death cirrhosis is, I've seen it up close. RE: Dead - Gene C - 12-24-2014 01:06 PM Here's the song - "The Letter" by the Box Tops -- notice how all the guys have ties on.
