Whether Bishop was a "true historian" or not- his book was the primary reason many got interested in Lincoln. The format he used- the hour by hour account of what was happening- is a riveting way to tell the story- and has been copied by others many times.

I just would like to know what the assassination experts think of "They Have Killed Papa Dead" - I really liked that one and it seemed a good book to me? Is it?

I agree, Eva. The book is full of information, and I commend the author for a job well done. Tony Pitch is a forum member, and he made one post here.

I knew Tony for quite a few years as he worked on his book, and I think he did a fine job in presenting the material in an enjoyable format that made it easy to read. I was a little disappointed because he had said that it was going to reveal new things, but I think it failed to do so. To someone new in the field - or a non-addict on the subject - it is definitely a good reference, however.

Although Bishop's book is good; I always thought it bordered more or less on a novel -

Hi Betty, if I could only save ONE book from my Lincoln collection it would be Twenty Days...superb book with haunting photos and information that will stay with you a long time after putting the book down.

As for "The Day Lincoln was Shot" - I'm just reading it and really enjoy it. Although it doesn't reveal news about the "assassination saga" the narrative style makes it a relaxing read, and I like the little descriptive asides e.g. on Washington and the lifestyle in those days.

Eva, I know you and I both talked about getting and reading The Day Lincoln Was Shot. Glad to hear you got it and are reading it. I just got my copy in the mail and will hopefuly start soon!

Speaking of in the mail and starting hopefully soon, yesterday I received Don's book "The Cause of all Nations", and cannot wait to start! From thumbing through it it looks like full of interesting aspects and information that are really new to me.

Thank you to Joe Di Cola for this image. Joe writes, "I still have the Bantam paperback I got at the gift shop in the hospital where my dad was a physician on staff; this was late winter of 1956." The cost was $.50. He adds that he holds it together with a rubber band.
