Morris Bartlett-102-NY-Vols.Writes home to his mother about Lincoln! Dear Mother-6-14-1864-I hope that this war will soon come to a close for there has been enough bloodshed. The North has lots of men and money to carry on this thing for another 3yrs.Old Abe is re-nominated and will get re-elected.He is the only man to finish what he began.I heard yesterday that Honest Abe will get re-elected.He will settle this war more than any other man.Believe it,it is just as true as the World.I can't think of any more to write at present. My love to you all.Your son M.H.Bartlett----Morris died in The Battle Of Peach Tree Creek,Ga--7-20-1864

By the time the letter arrived home he was probably dead.

At the time the letter was written, Lincoln was the ripe age of 55 years. Today, that age is not considered old. But in the Civil War era, Lincoln was "old Abe." maybe it had more to do with Lincoln's looks rather than his age. I do realize the age 55 in Lincoln's day maybe was old.
