My review of "Mr. Lincoln's Chair: The Shakers & Their Quest for Peace" by A. Sanchez - Karen S. Campbell - 08-03-2012 06:42 PM

This is a link to my article about Anita Sanchez' book "Mr. Lincoln's Chair" on my blog. Since the Shakers were pacifists like the Quakers, I wrote about the Lincoln administration's policies (or lack thereof) concerning non-combatants during the Civil War. My research was done in 2009 in connection with the Fifth Quaker Genealogy & History Conference entitled: "A House Divided: Lincoln, Quakers, and the Civil War."

The following link is to the PowerPoint developed for the conference. The details about the issues circling conscription and non-combatants (i.e. Quakers) starts on slide #82.
