. . . Lindsey presented me with the crutches Rick and Patrick so generously made for me. They truly are impeccable and fit me perfectly. I'm so thankful to the two of them for going through all the effort to make me such a fine pair of crutches in the same manner in which they would have been made during the Civil War era . . .

Dave,

The pleasure was ours.

Rick

Rick, as always, is being extremely modest concerning his generosity. Not only did Rick custom make my crutches, he also took me up to Gettysburg so that I could purchase some period clothes. If it weren't for Rick, I would be stuck wearing my Booth Escape Route t-shirt from Surratt House instead of these dashing clothes:

P.S. Those are non-firing replicas of Booth's Army and Navy Colt.

Dave,

That is some very nice hardware you are sporting.

The hat is one of the best, made by Dirty Billy. For those who are interested, the red silk lining in the hat Dave is wearing is stamped with an appropriate historical hat maker's mark, which has an address of Pennsylvania Ave., Wash., DC. And Dave's shirt is a blue wool flannel shirt, ala JWB, made by Kara Bartels of Gettysburg.

The only problem, as I see it, is that Dave looks more like Bob Younger than Booth.

Rick

Line him up for the next Young Guns movie!

GREAT outfit, Dave, and a very cool and fasciating project at all! Especially as it involves so much teamwork (and team-fun I assume) and you care about accuracy regarding almost each little detail. All the best for your endeavor, have fun - and good weather!

Dave,

You look WONDERFUL in period dress! It's fun, too isn't it? Love the hat - I've known Dirty Billy for years. He's TOPS in period head ware, plus he's a great guy.

The frock looks wonderful, too -

This will be a grand experience for you - and I can't wait for the fun to begin!

Dave,

Post a full length photo so that everyone can see your boots. They really set off the outfit.

Rick

Check out what's "IN" for footwear in our next issue of CQ, Conspirator's Quarterly

They might be great for jumping over railings, running across the stage, climbing on a horse, or just making a fashion statement, but what kind of support do they give your feet?

Also in this month's issue, "Designer Crutches, What Features Should You Look For", in our exclusive interview with designer and craftsman, Rick Smith.

Read all about it in this month's special issue. (Available now hidden behind the walls at your nearby Tavern/Post Office. Ask for Laurie)

The bada** look circa 1865 -
Along with Mary Chapin Carpenter singing back ground vocals. You've got it down pat

If I get to cast the, hopefully coming to a theatre near you, Manhunt movie. I will definately consider you for the role of Davey Herold. I think you look great.

I'm not a casting agent by the way.

Good luck to you, Dave! I commend you for going to such lengths in the name of research.

Please write as much down of your experience as you can.

And please don't remove any more pages from your diary...

Rick

I would post a picture in full attire but the pants I had ordered were delayed in their construction and are only going to be finished tomorrow afternoon. Since I don't have time to run up to Gettysburg to get them before Saturday, Rick is letting me borrow a pair of his pants.

I do have this picture of me wearing my normal street clothes (and shoes) showing my practice with splinting and bandaging my leg and using Rick's crutch.

I, too, am hoping that I will not prove James O. Hall's theory that the torn pages from Booth's diary were not evidence of Booth's massive conspiracy, but rather of Booth's massive B.M.s in the woods.

Regardless, I'll finally answer that age old question, "Does a Booth **** in the woods?"

Thank you Linda. I will be doing some writing, but I'm hoping the videologue will also help me preserve the experience.

I would hope that Mr. Taylor will consult with real physician or wound dresser as that is not the type of binding that Dr. Mudd would have applied. The splint would be of the "sugar tong" variety and requires musch less window dressing than that observed in the picture posted. If accuracy in dressing is required (from the clothes it is important), I would respectfully suggest that Mr. Taylor look at the Surgical manual of the Confederate Medical Department, for how to properly applya splint. Properly applied they are not an impediment but actually serve to releive pain and provide support.
