Sir:
This is true at every other National Historic Site. These individuals give the impression that "treasure is everywhere" you just need a detector and its yours. I would not permit anyone to detect my property.

The finding of material in and of itself means noting other than the object alue- what is more valuable is the understanding of the relationship to the area, the stratigraphy and its relationship to other items found at or near the site. All serve to tell a story. The producers want to tell a story to make money, the "diggers" want publicity and then turn that to money. that they have a professional archeologist may or may not be relevant to the story they want to tell. Documentation at every step, followed by a considered interpretation is not what these individuals or producers are all about.

thankfully many important sites are too remote for these individuals. Our knowledge of the Battle at the Little Big Horn would be so different if the field had been "detected" for "nectar"r and the relationships between where found and the orientation found been lost. Go to a beach or public park and find lost coins and rings. Stay off my battlefields and historic sites. I suppose what I am saying is be responsible.
