Lincoln's"Acts of Kindness" - HerbS - 03-11-2014 10:20 AM

We all know that Lincoln had many controversial Pardons. But,I thought these"Acts of Kindness"[mercy] were unique.1.While riding in his carriage to The Soldiers Hospital, they almost ran over a young wounded soldier.Lincoln got out and went up to the soldier and noticed that both eyes were blown out.Lincoln hugged him and told him that he was President Lincoln. The next day,Lincoln promoted him and discharged him!2.A mother and father went to see Lincoln to ask to have their wounded son go back home with them so that he could be nursed back to health and battle.Lincoln cried with the parents, and granted them their request. The soldier did heal and went back to battle!

I found a local[Canandiagua,NY] appeal to Lincoln for a dead soldier[Gettysburg].The appeal was from a very poor family, for their son to be sent back home to Canandaigua to be buried. The appeal was sent to Lincoln from Canandaigua's Post Master due to his writing skills.Lincoln had him buried in The Gettysburg National Cemetary with full honors!

The many Acts of Kindness we are aware today may be only a few. So many stories have vanished over time. This is those stories which drew me to Lincoln.
