How Did the Freemen View Mr. Lincoln - L Verge - 03-10-2014 01:14 PM The current issue (Summer 2013 - yes, behind schedule) of The Lincoln Herald has an interesting article on how the black population viewed Mr. Lincoln, especially after the assassination. Much of the information is taken from the narratives developed in the 1930s by the WPA. The authors are David Silkenat, a lecturer in American History at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and John Barr, a professor of history at Lone Star College in Kingswood, Texas.
