Map of each state's favorite musicians - Linda Anderson - 02-26-2014 11:46 AM

"The map claims to show each state’s most distinctive musical artist - that is the singer or band with the most outsized local support compared with the rest of the country
"Rather than being based on where artists are from, it is based on the real listening behavior of actual music fans and is based on data from music streaming services
"Some selections seem like a natural fit, while others are out of left field"

The Civil Wars are popular in Alabama.

Very interesting but...
I have lived in PA for 1/4 century and have never heard of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Just not into folk indie rock.

This Marylander wants to know who Kelly Roland is.

I'm trading the group on the map for KY (the blue grass state) to these guys - Ricky Scaggs and Kentucky Thunder

I'm from CT and I have not hear of David Guetta nor have I heard of most of the musicians listed on the map.

Kelly Rowland used to be in Destiny's Child with Beyonce but the map says Kelly Roland so I don't know who she is. There is a YouTube video with someone named Kelly Roland though.

According to Wikipedia, James Blake is an "English electronic music producer and singer-songwriter from London."

Well I lived in CT for 50+ years and the most famous musician there is the Rolling Stones' Keith Richards, who lives in Weston CT.

But have you heard of David Guetta?

I am trading the Florida guy (whom I've never heard of) to New Jersey for this guy.

Like others here- I have never heard of most of the artists. It doesn't bother me. I pretty much stopped listening to "popular music" twenty years ago.

I subscribe to this, too.
If Kurt Vile (whom I don't know) was Kurt Weill, I'd go for Oregon. Kurt Weill composed the following songs:

("Mack the knife" is from the wondeful "Threepenny Opera")

As for the outward appearance, I'm on the fence:

Honestly, as for this, I'd still go for him:

Eva: right on! The Beatles!

RE: Map of each state's favorite musicians - Eva Elisabeth - 02-27-2014 09:38 AM

Yeah yeah yeah! 4ever! And I bet they will survive almost all on the map.

RE: Map of each state's favorite musicians - Rogerm - 02-27-2014 09:52 AM

I would classify that map as basically useless.

I agree Roger, but it's probably best to just let it be. Say, that reminds me of a song
