Mr. Holzer is such a prolific writer. I think I will show the ex-teacher in me and mention one book I like for younger readers. If any forum members have children in school and are looking for a good introductory book on the assassination, Mr. Holzer wrote just the ticket (not the kind Mr. Beckert gives out) entitled The President Is Shot! The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln. There have been other books for youthful readers on the assassination, but I think Mr. Holzer's is one of the very best. RE: Never Enough Lincoln on the Shelves - LincolnMan - 07-30-2012 01:58 PM I have long admired Mr. Holder. Have heard him speak several times. Truly a gem in the Lincoln world. RE: Never Enough Lincoln on the Shelves - J. Beckert - 07-30-2012 08:57 PM He is. While traveling back home from Vt. in February, I heard him discussing Lincoln on a segment on NPR. Very interesting piece and I like his style. RE: Never Enough Lincoln on the Shelves - LincolnMan - 08-02-2012 10:10 PM By the way, love the name of this thread-there are truly never enough Lincoln books on the shelves! RE: Never Enough Lincoln on the Shelves - Laurie Verge - 08-06-2012 02:09 PM I suspect that most of you already know about this book since it has been out for over a year, but one of my volunteers left notice of it on my desk at Surratt House over the weekend: ABRAHAM LINCOLN TRAVELED THIS WAY: THE AMERICA LINCOLN KNEW, by Dr. Michael Burlingame. Available through Barnes & Noble for $28. Dr. Burlingame worked with acclaimed landscape photographer Robert Shaw to explore the places and land that were part of Lincoln's life - from Kentucky and Indiana, through 29 years in Illinois, and finally when he went east to serve as President. |
