Every year Barnes and Noble has a Holiday Book Drive in which individual stores pick various youth groups or schools whose students otherwise might not get a book and then ask customers to purchase one or more which will then be donated to them. I had an idea this year that I would like to share in case some of you are wondering how you could help some local kids and just maybe get them interested in Lincoln.
There are a number of very good juvenile biographies of Lincoln below $10 (some below $5). If you purchased a couple and donated them next time you are in your local BN, that might just be the spark to start someone down the same road we've all traveled. I'm donating three.

Barnes & Noble has closed a lot of stores in our area. Do they have an online drive where you can donate?

Unfortunately not. The closest store to Clinton is the Potomac Yard store in Alexandria or the downtown Washington store. Since each store decides who it will help, I don't think the corporate office believes doing it on a national scale would be effective.

Toys for Tots also accepts books for pre teen and teen donations. You can donate at any Marine Corps Recruiter or Toys R Us. There is also a website that can tell you of other drop-off locations by County.

That's great to know. There is a Toys R Us just a mile from Surratt House.

While your there shopping, I'd like the Easy Bake Microwave Dutch Oven Commemorative Civil War Set, with Mess Kit, and a few extra packets of the Hard Tack dog biscuit mix for Fido
(I don't think we can count on Santa this year)
