I got one that likely will NOT stump the German.

Hey, Sissi lived in Vienna.

I was in Vienna last week, and "met" this "friend of humanity".  Do you recognize him?
And how did he influence Lincoln? (I have honestly no idea, besides that his writings were read.)

Karl Marx, and there's a lot on him, Lincoln and the CW, Marx was a reporter in London on the topic. He also wrote Lincoln :

He wrote articles for the New York Tribune.

Not to be confused with the more successful philosopher and revolutionary comedian , Groucho Marx.
Not much written about him and Lincoln.

The German was not at all stumped.

Congratulations Eva!  Yes!  You immediately recognized Mr. Karl Marx.  You win a complimentary ride on the Prater-Riesenrad!  (oh, you're not excited about enjoying the last rays of summer with the other half of Vienna?)  and a signed copy of Robin Blackburn's 'Marx and Lincoln: An Unfinished Revolution'.  Thank you for participating!

Yesterday I happened to come across this pharmacy:

While there may be many "Lincoln-Pharmacies" in the US, there certainly aren't many in Germany, so I find it worth to be "honored" here. Where is it?
To make it more easy, this is another photo I took not far away from it:

Wilhelmshaven?

RE: Stump the German - Eva Elisabeth - 03-24-2022 08:38 AM

Good guess, Roger, it is a harbor city, but not Wilhelmshaven. The building in the second photo is actually quite prestigious.

RE: Stump the German - RJNorton - 03-24-2022 10:42 AM

Is it Hamburg del mar in Hamburg?

RE: Stump the German - Rogerm - 03-24-2022 11:42 AM

Is it in Kiel?

RE: Stump the German - Eva Elisabeth - 03-24-2022 02:48 PM

Excellent guesses from both of you, but Hamburg is correct. The building is the Elbphilharmonie, one of the largest concert halls in the world (and one of the most beautiful IMO):

Round the corner is the Reeperbahn, where the legendary Star Club was located:

Oh neat! Did you happen to determine which Lincoln the Apotheke might be named after? A Brit by the name of Lincoln who settled long ago in Hamburg?
I didn't know the Beatles did punk! My mother always said they were innovative, but so ahead of their time? Gonna add that recording to my music mix!

RE: Stump the German - Gene C - 03-26-2022 12:37 PM

I didn't know they did country and western. Note the cowboy boots in the youtube video @ :45 seconds

RE: Stump the German - Eva Elisabeth - 03-27-2022 11:39 AM

Yes, they originally wore cowboy boots and leather before Brian Epstein put them into suits.
Amy - I do not know but would rather think the pharmacy was named after Abraham Lincoln. Yes, and the Beatles were certainly innovative, they did a lot of "firsts" (including the first music video - Strawberry Fields). So, did you k ow this one from the White Album? It's actually my alarm clock sound (the only that works for me)

That's a way to wake up! Yeah, a rocking kick. As opposed to a softly encouraging, "Get up, get out of bed, grab a comb across yr head."

I admittedly know Helter Skelter-covers better - U2 & Siouxsie & The Banshees

Hey, etwas fällt mir ein!
Bringing it back to finding things 'Lincoln', eine Frage:

What great (subjective) US band had an album named 'Lincoln'?
