Lincoln and His Generals - Gene C - 09-10-2013 07:17 AM Very good book, well written, flows well, about the relationship between President Lincoln and his generals. Written by T Harry Williams in 1952. Points out the difference between Lincoln's strategy for the military during the war and his different generals strategy, or lack of strategy. Not a military textbook, you won't get overwhelmed with details. Without trying to, Willaims shows Lincoln's ability to teach himself, something most of us have read he was good at in his younger years. It was interesting to see that Lincoln, untrained in military operations and strategy, understood more than professionally trained soldiers. A book worth owning. RE: Lincoln and His Generals - LincolnMan - 09-10-2013 03:34 PM My first "Civil War" book that I ever read. I'm not counting Sandburg's Lincoln works. Agree totally, Gene. RE: Lincoln and His Generals - Hess1865 - 09-11-2013 07:21 AM Excellent book! I've had a copy for years! RE: Lincoln and His Generals - Joe Di Cola - 09-11-2013 08:17 AM Excellent book--I agree. I still have the copy my dad got me in 1952 alas minus the dust jacket. |
