RE: Extra Credit Questions - L Verge - 11-29-2013 10:40 AM That was just his excuse for getting out of going to Black Friday sales with Mary... Christmas used to be about "no room at the inn;" now it's about "no room at the mall." RE: Extra Credit Questions - Gene C - 11-29-2013 10:55 AM I hear at Wal Mart they call it "Black and Blue" Friday Be sure to take advantage of Roger's "Black Friday Special". Renew your membership in the forum for only half price. That's today only. If it's past 12 noon where you are this offer has already expired. Better luck next year RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 11-30-2013 06:39 AM May I ask, why do you call this Friday "Black Friday"? I've never heard that expression in another context than referring to the breakdown of the stock exchange in 1869. (But that was in September, and I really can't draw a line between Thanksgiving and the stock exchange crash.) RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rob Wick - 11-30-2013 07:51 AM Eva, Black Friday is the day that businesses start getting their books "in the black" and not "in the red." Many retailers do as much as 40 percent of their gross sales during the holiday season. Best Rob RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 11-30-2013 08:03 AM Thanks, Rob! RE: Extra Credit Questions - Linda Anderson - 11-30-2013 11:32 AM And Cyber Monday is the first Monday after Thanksgiving when you can get great deals online. RE: Extra Credit Questions - LincolnMan - 12-05-2013 10:22 AM Name the female actress that played Mrs. Lincoln in a film, has a Confederate ancestor, and also has a connection to Stonewall Jackson. Too easy, I know. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rob Wick - 12-05-2013 01:03 PM Mary Tyler Moore. Best Rob RE: Extra Credit Questions - LincolnMan - 12-05-2013 01:05 PM Very good Rob. Hope things are okay with and the family. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rob Wick - 12-05-2013 01:52 PM Thanks Bill. Not much change right now. Best Rob RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 12-17-2013 08:49 AM Well, I doubt this one will need long... Whose last words were the following: "Let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees"? RE: Extra Credit Questions - BettyO - 12-17-2013 09:11 AM Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 12-17-2013 10:43 AM Brilliant, Betty! It was him. Well, I'd probably think differently if I was suffering from pneumonia, but at the very moment I'd rather go with Diogenes of Sinope, who, asked for his desires, replied to Alexander the Great: "Stand a little out of my sunshine" - if there only WAS any sunshine (it's just dark- darker - the darkest)! Betty, you win some light from our shopping center - and could, please, someone enlighten me as for what a Yankee candle is??? [attachment=323] RE: Extra Credit Questions - BettyO - 12-17-2013 11:10 AM Thanks, Eva! Ahhhh -- Yankee Candles?! We sell them in our shop! They are the best and have nothing to do with the War between the States! They are so named because they come from New England - they burn for years without burning down! RE: Extra Credit Questions - L Verge - 12-17-2013 11:17 AM And, depending on the "flavor" you choose, make your house smell wonderful. |
