I'd have thought Powell would have been given a hat at least if not a big overcoat. Looks more like a courtroom than a bedroom ... And what's that ribboned box to one side? (Just asking)

It's the staircase scene. The ribbon edition box is probably the fake medicine Dr. Verdi "sent".

"Turn Lights Off"

I have no idea, but I'll guess Jimmy Carter posted this sign in the White House during the energy crisis of the 1970s. As far as where it is now....I'll guess the Smithsonian.

Very good ideas, Roger, but not correct.
Hint #1: It is a very recent sign.
Hint #2: The place has been visited by forum members.

I am cheating on the sign and asking that you give Bill B. credit also on the answer because he sent me the same email and photo a few weeks ago.

Turn Lights Off sign is posted at the tennis courts on Fort McNair. Those courts are located where the execution of the Lincoln conspirators occurred. I bet the military has not caught the significance and humor in this sign that they posted.

Well said, and I thought it a good final question because while I know what the words figurative mean in English, the German saying "the last one turns the light off" means that a situation (usually a hopeless one) has been decided to be abandoned.
And I'm glad you lead the field anyway, Laurie, so I don't have to decide whether to give that point or not.

Thank you everyone for your participation!
