Poor Denise has been batted around between you guys more than a baseball at Yankee Stadium!

Now, would Abe's pen be another item Robert kept?

RE: "Stump the Yankee" - BettyO - 10-28-2012 06:14 PM

Would it be a pencil?

No Ma'am's! I've heard of Tad giving someone one of his father's pens, but not Robert.

In March, 2005, Richards filed for divorce from Charlie Sheen accusing him of alcohol and drug abuse and threats of violence (Wikipedia) What would Abraham Lincoln have done? Probably the same thing as her lawyer did, a nice, big, fat alimony settlement. Cool

Alright - it's late and I've done as much hurricane prep as I can and it's time to hit the hay. I don't know if I'll have power tomorrow, so it's time for another hint. I feel bad about the first hint, so this one will have a little more meat on it. That's bit me in the tail before, but I am very confident no one will guess the third item.

Hint # 2 - One of the items Robert saved was presented to him by a White House servant who saw Lincoln with it in his hand shortly before he departed for Ford's Theater.

His eyeglasses; gloves or handkerchief?

Please stay safe, Joe!!!

Joe, just to show you how important Stump the Yankee is, I thought of this idea in the middle of the night. But early this morning I decided it was too "far out" to post. But, why not.

Please see the speculation I did here.

If Catherine Clinton is right, I am wondering if Robert might have ended up with the pistol Abraham Lincoln carried with him to Ford's.

I realize a weapon is not a "household item" to some Americans, but to some it is.

Assuming the pistol was originally a gift to Tad, I am sure Robert cherished it if indeed he ended up in possession of it.

I believe it was the coffee mug and fork Lincoln used the morning of April 14th.

RE: "Stump the Yankee" - RJNorton - 10-29-2012 08:38 AM

Is that the same fork Buchanan used, and then Lincoln used it to feed Tabby?

Boy, was I hoping Smyth wouldn't show up................

That's it Rich! After the assassination, a servant recovered the cup he saw Lincoln drinking from shortly before he departed for Ford's. It was found right where Lincoln left it - on a windowsill. The small china cup was given to Robert. He eventually gave it to someone, but I forget who.

That leaves one item between me and a Yankee victory. Here's the last hint.

Hint #3. I've never seen this item mentioned anywhere. It has stayed in the Lincoln family since 1865. Robert saved it because he was sure it was the last thing Lincoln used before he left.

Nose hair clippers. Mary sent him upstairs to trim his nose hair, and that's the real reason they were late to the theater.

No, Gene. I'd give up if I were you guys. I wonder what Roger has in his refrigerator...............

Apples. My daughter visited us Friday-Sunday and brought (from South Carolina) some of the best apples we've ever tasted. I think they're called Pink Ladies. Perhaps apples are not what you're looking for though...

RE: "Stump the Yankee" - J. Beckert - 10-29-2012 09:47 AM

Nope. Start fluffing up the pillows in the guest bedroom, Roger. Do you have a pool?

RE: "Stump the Yankee" - RJNorton - 10-29-2012 10:14 AM

We live in a senior development with access to two pools, tennis courts, and a golf course. Lots of old people wandering around the place. A few have lost some hearing and sight yet still drive.
