RE: Trivial Trivia - taking trivia to new levels - J. Beckert - 08-10-2024 10:01 PM Yes, sir! Good job! Although at least one report (from McLean family members) stated the room was simply plundered, more state that Ord gave McLean $40 - the entire contents of his wallet - for the table where Lee sat. Gen. Phil Sheridan bought the table where Grant was seated for $20 in gold. Adjusted for inflation, $40 in 1865 is worth $770.98 today. The Ord table today is in the Chicago Historical Society along with the actual bed Lincoln died in. The Grant table is in the Smithsonian. RE: Trivial Trivia - taking trivia to new levels - J. She won and put the chair up for auction. It was purchased by antique dealer Israel Sacks, who offered it to Henry Ford. (No relation the the Ford's Theater Fords). Ford bought it, but for how much?
