RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rob Wick - 08-17-2013 01:38 PM You got it Roger. J. McCan Davis put it in a list of documents he gathered about the marriage. Rev. Dresser wrote on the back the number which signified the number of people who had been married in Sangamon County before them. Your prize you already have....the love of your wife. Best Rob RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 08-24-2013 04:19 AM Who is this man? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-24-2013 04:42 AM Most likely it's wrong: John T Stuart? I withdraw. I think it could be Hannibal Hamlin. RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 08-24-2013 05:56 AM Good morning, Eva. Your second guess is correct. Kudos on a good job! I thought this one might last awhile. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-24-2013 06:48 AM Cool. Politicians and generals (often a synonym, isn't it?) I still find the "easiest" to recognize, most others are more difficult. Here's another trivia question: At the time Mary left the White House after the assassination she sent Abraham Lincoln's favorite walking cane as a special gift to someone with the comment: "I know of no one that would appreciate this more than...(?)" Who received this memento? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rogerm - 08-24-2013 08:06 AM Was it Meigs? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-24-2013 08:50 AM Good guess, Roger, but it was not anyone of the military. The recipient was first a critic, later an admirer of Abraham Lincoln. At least once, Lincoln called this person "my friend". Hint#1: Mary sent the gift to Rochester. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-24-2013 11:31 AM Hint#2: A. Lincoln and this person met the first time in August 1863 and the last time at the reception after the 2nd Inauguration. RE: Extra Credit Questions - L Verge - 08-24-2013 12:13 PM Frederick Douglass? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-24-2013 02:02 PM Yes, very good, Laurie. In "Reminisces of A. Lincoln"(ed. by Allen Thorndike Rice), p.195, Douglass writes:"She sent it to me at Rochester, and I have it in my house today, and expect to keep it there as long as I live." RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 09-11-2013 04:45 AM Who is this lady? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 09-11-2013 06:44 AM Wild guess: Elizabeth Todd Edwards in later life? RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 09-11-2013 07:43 AM Eva, you are amazing. Indeed that is Mary Lincoln's sister in later life and is not the picture most often seen in books. I am afraid I cannot offer you such a fine meal as you offered Roger and me. But I will send the best hot dog in the world. When I was in high school I hung out with the guys at Parky's. This is a very nostalgic memory. The fries and hot dogs were the best! And, after all these years, I think it's still there. Parky's in Forest Park, Illinois
RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 09-11-2013 08:13 AM Thank you, Roger, I'll enjoy it. Actually it will be my first hot dog ever. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Joe Di Cola - 09-11-2013 08:20 AM Yes, Roger, Parky's is still there, although I have to differ with you on the "best" hot dog in Chicago. That would be at SuperDawg at Milwaukee and Devon. Bon appetit! Joe |
