I think this must be wrong but I'll guess Thomas C. Gourlay. Two of his children, Thomas P. Gourlay and Robert O. Gourlay, were in the audience at Ford's.

Roger, this is an excellent guess, but not the one I was thinking of. Actually I don't know or remember if Abraham Lincoln and Thomas C. Gourlay had ever met respectively knew each other personally, but in that case Lincoln was certainly more closely acquainted with the person I am looking for.

Hint #1: The acquaintance was a professional one.

RE: Assassination Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 06-28-2015 04:20 PM

Hint. #2: Alliteration.

Re. hint #1: The business was politics.
Re. hint #2: Maybe it helps to go through the alphabet, and you needn't even have to go halfway through it.

RE: Assassination Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 06-29-2015 04:40 AM

Hint #3: The person and A. L. had not met personally before 1860.

Hint #4: One source is p.116 of a book written by a forum member.

Hannibal Hamlin?

RE: Assassination Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 06-29-2015 09:22 AM

Kudos, Roger, that is correct. Hamlin's children Sarah and Charles were at Ford's Theater on the night A. Lincoln was assassinated. Hamlin’s daughter Sarah, married to George Batchelder, felt a “chill passing over” as Booth lept to the stage near where she was seated.

Roger, you win tickets for a theatrical performance of your choice.

Thanks, Eva - please send tickets to The Phantom of the Opera. Thank you!

Love the Phantom! It is returning to the Kennedy Center next summer with a whole new production under the guidance of someone else. Bet he can't touch the Andrew Lloyd Webber version.

No problem! Good choice! If your schedule offers a vacancy until September I'll be most pleased to welcome you in Hamburg (where it is staged till then):

It's time to play an assassination related edition of What's Wrong With This Picture? Take a look at this picture of the Garrett Farm Mock up in the Ford's Theater Center For Education And Leadership and tell me what is wrong in this picture:

My aging eyes are not very good, but I think(?) I see a mustache. Didn't Booth shave off his mustache at Mudd's?

Yes! I just wish Ford's would correct it. You win an awesome car.
