RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 06-21-2013 Have fun shopping, Eva! And if he overcharges you, even if by mistake, make sure he walks all the miles to your residence with the change he owes you. __________________________________________________ Who said that Abraham Lincoln told him the following: "You know better than any man living that from my boyhood up my ambition was to be President." RE: Extra Credit Questions - LincolnMan - 06-21-2013 Mr. Lamon? RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 06-21-2013 Kudos, Bill. Very good. Indeed it was Ward Hill Lamon as quoted in the New York Tribune, July 26, 1885. Lamon said Lincoln told him this during the war. RE: Extra Credit Questions - LincolnMan - 06-21-2013 Thank you sir. I had come across the quote a couple weeks ago and remembered it. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 06-21-2013 (06-21-2013, 01:38 PM)RJNorton Wrote: Have fun shopping, Eva! RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 06-22-2013 Who said about A. Lincoln: "Why, if the old Greek had had this man, what trilogies of plays - what epics - would have been made out of him!...But Lincoln, his times, his death - great as any, belong to our own." RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rogerm - 06-22-2013 Was it Walt Whitman? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 06-22-2013 Very good, Roger, you hit the mark! He said this in 1879. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Gene C - 06-22-2013 I ordered something off Amazon called "Whitman Sampler" thinking it would be a collection of Walt Whitman's. Was I ever surprised. Evidently in his day he was quite a singer, and went by the nickname of "Slim" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUROKcDOvvk RE: Extra Credit Questions - Joe Di Cola - 06-22-2013 (06-22-2013, 10:34 AM)Gene C Wrote: I ordered something off Amazon called "Whitman Sampler" thinking it would be a collection of Walt Whitman's. And, Gene, He just died a few days ago at the age of 90. Gene, do you know this book? It's very good! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0345458001?ie=UTF8&force-full-site=1&ref_=aw_bottom_links RE: Extra Credit Questions - Gene C - 06-22-2013 Eva, I haven't read that one. I did read one by the same author called the Lincoln's - Portrait of a Marriage". There were a few things in that book I didn't agree with, but he does have a good writing style thats easy to read.
