RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 06-17-2013 02:40 PM Sorry, Joe, but Rob got it. Kudos, Rob! The source I used was an article by Dr. Wayne Temple in the Summer, 1965, Lincoln Herald. The title of the article is "Lincoln and the Burners at New Salem." I do not believe Daniel Green Burner's reminiscences were ever told to Herndon. He was 80 years old when he told his reminiscences and was a teen when he lived at New Salem. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 06-18-2013 02:01 AM Who was Lincoln's roommate at Worcester Hotel when he attended a Whig ralley in Boston on Oct 15, 1848? The prize will be a hammock so that you are independent and needn’t share hotel rooms with strangers. (You could also rest therein to recover from guessing.) RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 06-18-2013 07:05 AM Possibly it was William Seward? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rogerm - 06-18-2013 07:29 AM I would have said William Seward, as well. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 06-18-2013 07:39 AM Brilliant, I thought this was a difficult one, but you are too clever! It was the first time the two men met. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Joe Di Cola - 06-18-2013 02:00 PM Yes, Seward and Lincoln met as described; however, according to Walter Stahr (Seward's most recent biographer), there may be a problem with Seward's reminiscence that he and Lincoln shared lodgings together in Worcester, MA--see pages 110-111 of the Stahr biography. Cuba RE: Extra Credit Questions - L Verge - 06-19-2013 06:36 AM Absolutely correct. Thank you, sir. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 06-20-2013 05:25 AM When Lincoln and Herndon met for the last time, Herndon borrowed money from Lincoln. How much? RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 06-20-2013 08:48 AM I think it was $25.00. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 06-20-2013 09:47 AM Very good, Roger, you are right. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rob Wick - 06-20-2013 04:40 PM We all know that Lincoln had a long relationship with William Herndon, but he wasn't the first Herndon Lincoln knew. Who was? Best Rob RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 06-21-2013 02:03 AM J. Rowan Herndon (during his time in Indiana)? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rob Wick - 06-21-2013 06:49 AM You've got the name correct Eva, but the place wrong. He knew Lincoln in New Salem and built the store which was later sold to Lincoln and Berry. You win an unlimited shopping spree in the Lincoln-Berry store. Best Rob |
