RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - wpbinzel - 01-05-2018 02:49 PM Stephen Douglas? RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 01-05-2018 05:20 PM A very good idea, Bill, but not correct. (If Bill B. doesn't instantly nail it it's possibly a good question...) RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - wpbinzel - 01-05-2018 05:56 PM Thanks, Eva. If it is not Douglas, then I will go with my other guess and say Lincoln at the time of the Lincoln-Douglas Debates. (I don't know Lego people, so it is totally a guess.) RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 01-05-2018 06:07 PM Another smart guess, but this is to be another gentleman. You are correct however the scene re-in-LEGOed is a speech - one of the best of his career it is said. (I possess a beach towel with the gentleman's likeness btw., and I got it here in Kiel.) RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - RJNorton - 01-05-2018 06:20 PM Based on your last clue I will guess Willy Brandt. You posted a wonderful speech he gave here. RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - wpbinzel - 01-05-2018 06:45 PM John F Kennedy? RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - L Verge - 01-05-2018 06:48 PM It has to be Kennedy and his Ich bin ein Berliner (pardon any spelling errors) speech - especially if we're keeping to the assassination theme. RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 01-05-2018 07:05 PM I'm sorry to say the gentleman is neither Brandt nor Kennedy. Yes, Laurie - we are keeping to the assassination theme. Hint #1: Here's the entire picture: [attachment=2790] RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - wpbinzel - 01-05-2018 07:17 PM William McKinley? RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - AussieMick - 01-05-2018 08:19 PM Bobby Kennedy? His speech concerning Martin Luther King Jr's assassination was certainly one of the best. RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - Dennis Urban - 01-05-2018 09:10 PM I think McKinley based on the hats. RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - wpbinzel - 01-05-2018 09:21 PM (01-05-2018 09:10 PM)Dennis Urban Wrote: I think McKinley based on the hats. That was my thinking as well, Dennis. RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 01-06-2018 06:00 AM And that was why I thought the entire picture too revealing to begin with...Well done, gentlemen. Today is Heilige Drei Könige = Epiphany = Three Kings' Day, which celebrates the arrival of the Three Magi in Bethlehem, and marks the end of the 12 days of Christmas (hence time to take tree down). It is a public holiday in some German federal states and Austria. Today, groups of children, Sternsinger (starsingers), dressed as the magi (wise men), go singing door-to-door and 'chalk the doors as a way of blessing the house, writing 20*C+M+B+18 (this season), the numbers represent the year. CMB actually stands for "Christus mansionem benedicat" ("God protect this house"; most of my life I thought it stood for the magi's names - Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar...) [attachment=2793] So may your house be protected in 2018, too! I have three questions left, depending on how fast you guess and how busy my remaining day and packing will turn out I may post them all - I'm afraid from tomorrow on with new tests/exams ahead I will lack the time for such "luxury". Well then - who is she supposed to be? [attachment=2794] RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - RJNorton - 01-06-2018 10:21 AM Clara Harris? |
