In trying to answer Eva's question, I cheated and looked it up on Google. There, I found that a certain Justin Harlin, from Illinois, was appointed by Lincoln as Agent to the Cherokees. What was this all about?

Roger, could it be that your man was appointed in 1863? Anyway, I asked for the person who begged for another one's appointment, not for the appointee himself, maybe the wording was misleading.

You are probably right, Eva.

On April 4, 1854, who was elected mayor of Springfield?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 06-08-2013 07:24 AM

Wasn't Herndon once Mayor of Springfield? Was it in 1854?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 06-08-2013 07:29 AM

Correct, Eva! Very good. That was the year William Herndon was elected mayor of Springfield.

(I wonder if Herr Beckert will be so kind to add this to my score...)

RE: Extra Credit Questions - J. Beckert - 06-08-2013 09:23 AM

Kein Problem, süße Sache.

Germans 2
Yankees 0

RE: Extra Credit Questions - Laurie Verge - 06-08-2013 12:46 PM

Just one question: Is Herr Beckert now going to be a Yankee or a German in these scorings??

RE: Extra Credit Questions - J. Beckert - 06-08-2013 01:24 PM

I'm actually both, Laurie, but I'm going with whomever's winning here. I'm tired of being the Rebel's pinata.

Gesundheit.

You never swung to the Rebel side and left us alone when we were thoroughly beating you!!!

Since I didn't sneeze - what else can Gesundheit mean?

It's only me over there! I can't switch sides!! Who would keep you up guessing at night, refusing to surrender to the damn Yankees yet again?

Gesundheit means "health".

RE: Extra Credit Questions - Laurie Verge - 06-08-2013 02:25 PM

And all this time, I thought Gesundheit meant God bless you. Thanks for the lesson - and the good wish for health.

RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 06-08-2013 04:35 PM

Peace! I withdraw. One war at a time is possibly enough for Mr. Beckert...(although it was really nice, especially the sweet-talk...)

RE: Extra Credit Questions - L Verge - 06-08-2013 04:59 PM

Oh, don't withdraw, Eva. Trust me, Yankee Joe can take a lot of "abuse" and hand it right back to you! It would be like a day without sunshine if we weren't sparring with each other. Despite that, we are good friends.
