RE: Extra Credit Questions - Joe Di Cola - 05-25-2013 02:42 PM Eisenhower. The heliocopter was around much earlier, but Ike was the first and not until his second term. Joe RE: Extra Credit Questions - Laurie Verge - 05-25-2013 03:03 PM One of the Surratt volunteers was the Marine One helicopter pilot for Carter. Some interesting family stories... RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 06-01-2013 05:25 AM Who said about Andrew Johnson: "There are moments in the lives of most men, when the doors of their souls are open, and unconsciously to themselves, their true characters may be read by the observant eye. I caught a glimpse of the real nature of this man, which all subsequent developments proved true."? RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 06-01-2013 06:03 AM Just a guess - was it RE: Extra Credit Questions - BettyO - 06-01-2013 07:17 AM Another guess....Frederick Douglas? RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 06-01-2013 07:31 AM Eva, I would like to withdraw my previous guess and agree with Betty. RE: Extra Credit Questions - LincolnMan - 06-01-2013 08:51 AM (05-25-2013 02:42 PM)Joe Di Cola Wrote: Eisenhower. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 06-01-2013 08:54 AM No problem, BTW nice blotter. Well, I have to say: Betty and Roger, that was a sacred effort. It was F. Douglass, reviewing the 2nd Inaugural Address. The quote goes on like this. "I was standing in the crowd by the side of Mrs Thomas J.Dorsey, when Mr Lincoln touched Mr Johnson, and pointed me out to him. The first expression which came to his face, and which I think was the true index of his heart, was one of bitter contempt and aversion...the bland and sickly smile of the demagogue. I turned to Mrs Dorsey and said:'Whatever Johnson may be, he certainly is no friend of our race.'" RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 06-07-2013 04:46 AM In 1959 Boy Scout Post 15 of Des Moines, Iowa, did something that is Lincoln-related. What did they do? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 06-07-2013 05:04 AM I've no idea, I just like guessing: They built something, a log cabin or a flatboat with Lincolnc's patent device? RE: Extra Credit Questions - J. Beckert - 06-07-2013 05:58 AM Marked the site of Boston Corbett's dugout home? RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 06-07-2013 06:02 AM Eva and Joe, good guesses but not correct. RE: Extra Credit Questions - tblunk - 06-07-2013 06:43 AM [quote='RJNorton' pid='19743' dateline='1370598362'] In 1959 Boy Scout Post 15 of Des Moines, Iowa, did something that is Lincoln-related. What did they do? [/quote Donated a headstone for Thomas Jr. RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 06-07-2013 06:50 AM Correct, Tom. Good job. Little Tommy's grave is located on private property. RE: Extra Credit Questions - tblunk - 06-07-2013 07:32 AM Way back when I was a Boy Scout, I twice hiked the "Kentucky Lincoln". We would camp overnight near the Knob Creek Farm, and I can remember going up on the hill to see the gravesites. I only hiked the "Illinois Lincoln" and "Indiana Lincoln" once each. |
