RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 01-25-2014 04:55 AM Since I know nothing of this actor I cannot think of any clues. So here is what I came across. The actor's name was Frank Mordaunt. The quote is in a footnote in Inside Lincoln's White House: The Complete Civil War Diary of John Hay edited by Michael Burlingame and John R. Turner Ettlinger. The original source is the June 1905 Chicago Inter-Ocean. RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 02-01-2014 07:17 AM This person was in the audience at Ford's Theatre on April 14, 1865. What is his name? RE: Assassination Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 02-01-2014 10:46 AM Major Joseph Stewart ? RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 02-01-2014 10:51 AM Eva, that is an outstanding guess, but it's not him. I do not believe I have ever seen a photo of Stewart. Hint #1: This person's middle name was Payne (or Paine). RE: Assassination Trivia - Rsmyth - 02-01-2014 01:50 PM Thomas Payne Gourlay? RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 02-01-2014 01:59 PM Brilliant, Rich! That is correct - well done, sir! I found his middle name spelled both ways on the web - I do not know which is correct. Source of picture is here. RE: Assassination Trivia - Rsmyth - 02-01-2014 02:07 PM I have his original wedding license and it is spelled Payne. This is a picture of him in later years with his son's and one step son. He is second from the left. RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 02-02-2014 05:56 AM Thanks, Rich. I did an Internet search to see if I could find his account of the assassination and found it here (about half way down). RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 02-04-2014 08:38 AM After Abraham Lincoln's assassination two actors claimed they had previously rented the room where the president died. Both claimed John Wilkes Booth has visited them and rested upon the same bed on which Lincoln passed away. One of these actors was John Mathews. Who was the other? RE: Assassination Trivia - Anita - 02-04-2014 11:59 AM Charles Warwick RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 02-04-2014 03:00 PM Kudos, Anita! You are correct. You win one free dinner with any actor or actress of your choice. RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 02-26-2014 05:06 PM Who is this man? RE: Assassination Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 02-26-2014 05:54 PM James Tanner in older age? RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 02-26-2014 06:22 PM Excellent, Eva! The photo that I have seen in books is of a much younger James Tanner, so I thought this might be a challenge. Good job, Eva! RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 03-27-2014 03:28 PM John Surratt said that in his final trip to Richmond Judah Benjamin gave his some dispatches to take to Montreal. The dispatches were hidden in a book Surratt carried with him. What was the name of the book? |
