Well, I have followed all the hints, and I now think it is the Lincoln-Todd monument at Fred Smith's Wisconsin Concrete Park in Phillips, Wisconsin!

Here's one lady - who is/was she, and what links her to "the forum"?

No idea - a young Catherine the Great?

RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 01-04-2018 06:36 AM

I thought this a hard one - not Catherine the Great but European, Roger.
Hint #1: Think Mary.

Hint #2: Think fashion.

RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - Dennis Urban - 01-04-2018 10:44 AM

I'm going with Jenny Lind.

Empress Eugenie?

RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia - L Verge - 01-04-2018 12:08 PM

Empress Eugenie would be my guess also because she was the fashion icon of the 19th century. Mary Lincoln's love of fashion would be the link to our forum?

Good guess, Dennis, but - kudos, the ladies nailed it!

We recently discussed the cat-tail-quote - please go here for two interesting sites on Mary's/presidental fashion and possible fauxpas to French emperors' and other gentlemen's taste:

Napoleon III was supposed to be a real womanizer, but the coy Eugenie stuck to her virginity and was the one to capture his heart (for a while). There's a story that he supposedly asked her, while courting, how to get to her room. She replied "by way of the chapel," leaving no doubt that it would take marriage to get to her boudoir.

So, he married her, but the love didn't last that long. She miscarried their first child and then almost died in childbirth with their only child, a son. This soured her on going through all of that again, and her husband went back to his old ways of finding "love." Apparently, she gave her blessing to that arrangement.

I guess Mary didn't adore that part.
