RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - J. Beckert - 12-13-2016 03:13 PM Nice job, Roger. It's the Booth House in Harpers Ferry. So named because Booth is supposed to have rented a room there several times. Rumored to be haunted, nothing points to Booth being the spirit. We now have a tie and I believe Eva returns tomorrow. Roger 6 Thomas 6 Laurie 2 Dave 3 Joe 2 RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - L Verge - 12-13-2016 04:40 PM I must have been under a bucket all these years 'cause I never remember hearing of the Booth House. Not even friends who are on the edges of the paranormal have mentioned it to my knowledge. In searching for its history online, I found that it is now closed, but was being run as a museum for paranormal studies. There is a pretty bad interview with an elderly man in Charles Town, WV, about how it came to be named the Booth House. From what I could make out, it supports the John Yates Beall story of his friendship with Booth. I knew that Beall was from the Charles Town area, born on a farm called Walnut Creek. After his execution, his body was finally brought back for burial in the Episcopal graveyard in the town. The gentleman who is interviewed claims that Booth rented this house on the Frank Cavalier Farm in order to spend time near his friend Beall. Not sure that I'm buying this story. What does Art Loux's work say about any trips to Harpers Ferry or Charles Town (other than for the execution of John Brown)? John Yates Beall spent a lot of time in Iowa before the war and then served in Confederate forces before being badly wounded. He then turned to his most famous exploits as a Confederate privateer/saboteur. When would Booth have been visiting him in WV? Great question, Joe, and it gave me another historic puzzle to pursue - maybe... I just checked the index and cannot find mention of any other visits other than the one you cited. If not please let me know. Eva, we all realize how busy you are in Vienna. Whenever you can post is fine with all of us on the forum. Thanks again to you and Joe for continuing the tradition of Trivia Advent Calendar! RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - L Verge - 12-13-2016 06:06 PM Thanks, Roger. The interviewee also claimed that the Booth House once had his derringer on display. RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Eva Elisabeth - 12-13-2016 06:25 PM Tomorrow has already begun - here at least. Due to this going to be a busy day I think it better to post today's question right now - which is also fair towards the night owls (usually I serve the early birds...). Now, what link to the saga hides behind the tree? [attachment=2488] RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Anita - 12-13-2016 08:25 PM St. Mary's Church in Bryantown, MD where Mudd met Booth? RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - L Verge - 12-13-2016 11:44 PM St. Aloysius Catholic Church in D.C.? Attended sometimes by the Surratts and supported at least once by a donation from Booth? SCRATCH THAT ANSWER! Is it the Church of the Holy Cross in Liverpool where John Surratt hid in the oratory? RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - RJNorton - 12-14-2016 04:42 AM Springfield's Old Second Presbyterian Church where Abraham Lincoln jumped out a window on December 5, 1840? RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - BettyO - 12-14-2016 06:11 AM Is this the church where the Rathbones are (were?) buried in Germany? RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Eva Elisabeth - 12-14-2016 07:14 AM Thanks for so many outstanding guesses - And kudos to Laurie who nailed it, it's J.S.'s hideout-church in Liverpool. (I couldn't find anything on Paul McCartney having sung there as once mentioned on the forum. But why not?) http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hibernia/churches/hol.htm [attachment=2489] Roger 6 Thomas 6 Laurie 3 Dave 3 Joe 2 (PS: I just found how I'd love Xmas - just have to share...): https://www.quora.com/What-is-it-like-to-celebrate-Christmas-in-Australia-during-the-summer RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Thomas Kearney - 12-14-2016 11:50 AM I need to get back in this trivia game to win win win.
