RE: Who is this person? - Gene C - 03-16-2015 That's right Roger. Congratulations! Your prize is a fee admittance to the candle light tour of Lincoln's New Salem https://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=AwrB8pJrvAZVdRAA36OJzbkF;_ylu=X3oDMTIyb252Mmo4BHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDaW1nBG9pZAMxMzUyYjFlMjNmYjVhYmYzODU1NDFkMDkzOWM2NTY4YQRncG9zAzgEaXQDYmluZw--?.origin=&back=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fyhs%2Fsearch%3Fp%3Dlincoln%2527s%2Bnew%2Bsalem%2Bcandlelight%26n%3D60%26ei%3DUTF-8%26type%3Datt_pc_homerun_portal%26fr%3Dyhs-att-att_001%26fr2%3Dsb-top-images.search.yahoo.com%26hsimp%3Dyhs-att_001%26hspart%3Datt%26tab%3Dorganic%26ri%3D8&w=1000&h=693&imgurl=static.squarespace.com%2Fstatic%2F540f7f5ce4b05f0d2fb4a74e%2F5426d317e4b096834c4eeb83%2F5426d38fe4b0178613678ca3%2F1415288046051%2Fnewsalem_b.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fvisuals.sj-r.com%2Fhistoric-landmarks%2F&size=714.3KB&name=are+volunteers+in+the+Berry-%3Cb%3ELincoln%3C%2Fb%3E+store+at+%3Cb%3ELincoln%26%2339%3Bs%3C%2Fb%3E+%3Cb%3ENew%3C%2Fb%3E+%3Cb%3ESalem%3C%2Fb%3E+...&p=lincoln%27s+new+salem+candlelight&oid=1352b1e23fb5abf385541d0939c6568a&fr2=sb-top-images.search.yahoo.com&fr=yhs-att-att_001&tt=are+volunteers+in+the+Berry-%3Cb%3ELincoln%3C%2Fb%3E+store+at+%3Cb%3ELincoln%26%2339%3Bs%3C%2Fb%3E+%3Cb%3ENew%3C%2Fb%3E+%3Cb%3ESalem%3C%2Fb%3E+...&b=0&ni=256&no=8&ts=&tab=organic&sigr=11bc8pnh5&sigb=16rrohmkj&sigi=145bttdfj&sigt=134nck96u&sign=134nck96u&.crumb=oqxTfPbyITM&fr=yhs-att-att_001&fr2=sb-top-images.search.yahoo.com&hsimp=yhs-att_001&hspart=att&type=att_pc_homerun_portal (bring your own candle) From the book - Crowns of Thorns and Glory. "He (Jefferson Davis) wore himself out and came down with laryngitis and a severely painful and dangerous inflammation of the eyes that confined him to a dark room for two months and eventually cost him the sight in one eye....The one who surprised her (Varina Davis) with his constant concern however, was William Seward. The more she knew him the better she liked him, and the more he puzzled her....Seward asked about every symptom and was upset when he learned that there was a possibility that Jefferson might lose an eye. "There is an earnest, tender interest in his manner which was unmistakably genuine," she wrote. "He was thoroughly sympathetic to human suffering, and would do most unexpected kindness to those who would have anticipated the opposite only." I've just started reading this book, and it's pretty good. RE: Who is this person? - Anita - 03-23-2015 Who is this person? RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 03-23-2015 Mrs. Ann Sprigg? RE: Who is this person? - Anita - 03-23-2015 Nice try Roger but it's not Mrs. Sprigg. This lady was born in Leesburg, Tenn. RE: Who is this person? - Rogerm - 03-23-2015 Is this lady the wife of Andrew Johnson? RE: Who is this person? - Anita - 03-23-2015 Well done! It is indeed Eliza Johnson. Photo is from the National First Ladies' Library. I chose to post about her because Easter is in a few weeks and she is the first known First Lady to attend a White House Easter Egg Roll. You win a dozen colored eggs and a chocolate bunny. RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 03-23-2015 Who is this? Is it Lincoln's horse, Bob? --Jim RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 03-23-2015 This is an excellent guess, Jim, but I believe Bob has not been preserved and stuffed like this one. Darn it; I wanted a chocolate bunny!!! RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 03-24-2015 Then try again! RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 03-24-2015 Wild guess - Ulysses S. Grant's horse named Cincinnati? RE: Who is this person? - BettyO - 03-24-2015 That is Jackson's Little Sorrel - stuffed and mounted at VMI - RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 03-24-2015 Two further brilliant ideas, Roger and Betty, but, I am sorry, neither is correct. Hint #1: He was a Union horse. Hint #2: He was renamed for a town in Virginia due to a victory in a battle. The ride to the victory began there. It will also be fine just to find out whose horse he was! |
