I doubt it's William Barton, but I'll still guess him.

No doubt, Roger! It was Barton. Good job!

The building in the center was very important to Tarbell. What is it?

McClure's headquarters?

RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia - Rob Wick - 06-18-2024 06:37 AM

Man Roger, there's no fooling you! It's the very first headquarters of McClure's Magazine. They would move several times as the magazine prospered.

Steve,

It's interesting that you mention McCrory's. I had never heard of them until I saw a random YouTube video the other day about stores that were no longer in business. Evidently, McCrory's not only went under, but they also purchased other chains that were shuttered when the big store closed.

Of course, the reason McClure's went down was hubris—not just on the part of Sam McClure but also on those who tried to live off its early success without the genius that McClure had. Sadly, his genius couldn't help his poor business ability or act as a governor on his manic personality like Tarbell and John S. Phillips could. Talk about a mess.

Rob,
Honestly, I was mostly thinking back to when I was really little and my Mom would take me and my younger brother to the local McCrory's

No Googling, please.

What does this picture represent in the life of Ida M. Tarbell.

Does this have something to do with Henry Wing?

RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia - Rob Wick - 11-14-2024 04:03 PM

Actually, it has everything to do with Henry Wing. It is an illustration from the book "A Reporter for Lincoln" that Tarbell put together from Wing's papers and her interviews with him.
