David, please remind me ... What was Einstein’s definition of insanity?

(trick question)

"Bury your head in the sand and you will regret it."

I made that up myself.

The AI answer to question is the following:

The most commonly misattributed Einstein quote is: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

While the sentiment is often associated with him, there's no concrete evidence that he actually said or wrote those words. The earliest known instance of the quote appears in an Al-Anon meeting report in 1981.

Other frequently misattributed quotes include:

Oct 13, 2013: "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."

"If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't understand it yourself.".

I read that post over once again just now and thought I should explain. When I read it again, I realized that you might have thought that the remark was directed to you, AussieMick (Mike). Absolutely, that was not the case. Please accept my sincere apology if you so thought.

It's been almost five years now since I made my other posts on this thread. There has been no major progress on the threat of climate change. Instead, things have become much worse. In short, I said to the world: "Bury your head in the sand and you will regret it."

What I was trying to say with that line is that the world has been ignoring the dire threat of climate change (and over population) at its own peril.

New York Times headline today: Repeal of Clean Energy Law Will Mean a Hotter Planet, Scientists Warn

Republicans plan to terminate billions of dollars in clean energy tax credits. Experts say that will mean more greenhouse gas emissions and more dangerous heat.

I'm as strong a supporter of responsible climate management as anyone, but what in the world does this have to do with Lincoln?

Best

As I recall, General Sherman used a "scorched earth" policy during the Civil War, and after over 150 years, it's still hot during the summer in Georgia and South Carolina.
Undecided

The first line of my 6-19 post on this thread reads as follows: "I think that President Abraham Lincoln’s principal strength was logical analysis, including the trending of important factors affecting any issue under consideration."

As an example, see my post of March 18, 2025 on the thread titled RE: People who insist on precedent and Presidential dignity:

Greeley on August 20, 1862, in the Tribune, ran the editor’s “Prayer of Twenty Millions.” [It was the editor's blast at the administration of President Lincoln.] “The Prayer of Twenty Millions” scolded the president, asserting that many of his
early supporters were now “sorely disappointed and deeply pained” by his foot-dragging on emancipation.

Here’s where the U.S. will see record-breaking heat
Washington Post June 22, 2025

Extreme humidity and heat will affect about 265 million people across the country this week. Maps show where and when to expect the worst.

A wave of record-breaking humidity and heat is surging across the United States, with about 265 million people forecast to experience 90- or 100-degree temperatures during the week ahead, including humidity levels that rival those in the Middle East.

By your logic then you could start a thread on the the price of eggs in China on a summer's day. If I want to discuss current events I will go to a website devoted to that. I come here to discuss Lincoln and only Lincoln.

I know that you wrote your post in English, but it is Greek to me.

Let's have a poll.

I vote to keep issues such as climate change off the board. I'm sure there are other venues for that.

You are absolutely right. President Trump has said: "Burn even more fossil fuels" to solve the problem.

President Lincoln might have said: "Democracy 'Yes'; Monarchs 'No'." Monarch is defined as a sole and absolute ruler of a state or nation.
