Herb, I can tell you that the train came through Fairport at about 2:51 A.M. on the early morning of April 27, 1865. It had stopped in Palmyra for about 10 minutes, and there was a brief memorial service at that location at 2:15 A.M. There were crowds carrying torches, singing hymns, and wearing mourning badges at Macedon and Fairport, but I don't think the train stopped at either village. It arrived in Rochester at 3:20 A.M. I used Scott Trostel's book for this, and there is no mention that the train made a definite stop in Fairport. RE: Lincoln Funeral Train - HerbS - 03-27-2015 03:46 PM Thanks Roger, but I mean THIS summer! RE: Lincoln Funeral Train - RJNorton - 04-09-2015 10:56 AM Thank you to Laurie for sending this article. |
