I don't know if it's still there, but the Loyola Retreat House, which now sits on the banks where Booth and Herold made their trek to the edge of the Potomac River to push off to the Virginia shore, used to have a beautiful Mr. Lincoln's Rose. The blooms were a vibrant red and plush as velvet. I believe there is also a Mary Lincoln Rose.

Here's the Paul McCartney rose, Bill.

Here is the Amelia Earhart rose.

While I was googling "Abraham Lincoln roses," I came across this rose with an inspirational saying supposedly from Mr. Lincoln.

They are so beautiful.

In 1995, this actor said Abraham Lincoln was his hero because he was "the only good politician because he was for the people." Who is the actor?

Hint 1: we've mentioned in previous posts actors Lee Marvin and Robert Ryan. This "mystery" actor starred in a film featuring both of them.

Charles Bronson?

RE: Trivial Trivia - taking trivia to new levels - LincolnMan - 07-01-2014 05:40 PM

Hi Roger: great guess- but he did star in a movie with the aforenamed actors. Guess again! It's not Mr. Bronson.

Ernest Borgnine? With them in Dirty Dozen?

Yes Laurie! That's the correct answer! What prize would you like?

Since it is 92 degrees at 8:15 pm in Surrattsville, I would like a Polar Virbel right now!

P.S. My other guess was going to be Burt Lancaster in The Professionals...

Abraham Lincoln is said to be the first and only President to read this book. What book is that?

RE: Trivial Trivia - taking trivia to new levels - LincolnMan - 07-01-2014 07:19 PM

Yes, Lee Marvin and Robert Ryan worked together in that great movie as well.
About the polar prize- Michigan will be quite a bit cooler tomorrow- I would guess the cooler temps are coming your way?

They say maybe by Friday. By that time, I will be badly wilted.
