RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 01-20-2013 01:06 PM Hint #2: It's a university located in Tennessee. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rob Wick - 01-20-2013 01:12 PM Lincoln Memorial University? Best Rob RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 01-20-2013 01:52 PM Rob, another logical guess, but that's not it, either. Hint #3: Robert gave the gift in 1916. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rob Wick - 01-20-2013 02:15 PM Fisk? Best Rob RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 01-20-2013 02:22 PM Yes, Rob, that's it. http://books.google.com/books?id=3gdEW-hU2lQC&pg=PA157&lpg=PA157&dq=%22fisk%22+%22lincoln+bible%22&source=bl&ots=zMfghzBoJ6&sig=CTaX97oalHWK82fAzpXVUqPb6So&hl=en&sa=X&ei=n0P8UNLDNZCA9QSP2oBw&ved=0CEsQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q=%22fisk%22%20%22lincoln%20bible%22&f=false RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 01-21-2013 07:18 AM A girl Lincoln met during his youth noted the following: I could a' been Abe Lincoln's wife, if I'd wanted to, yes sirree. Well, Abe tuk me home from church oncet. What was her name? This was a challenge, Roger! I had to sift through a lot of Indiana stuff! RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 01-21-2013 10:26 AM You got it, Joe. Kudos. And I thought this one may last awhile. I was using Louis Warren's book, and he indicates her first name was Sarah. It's on p. 157. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Laurie Verge - 01-22-2013 01:50 PM A little off track, but I just finished a very disturbing book (which I will give you the title to later). My trivia question is: What U.S. Congressman is the only one to be assassinated while still serving in the House of Representatives? RE: Extra Credit Questions - J. Beckert - 01-22-2013 02:00 PM Huey Long? Or was he Governor at the time? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Joe Di Cola - 01-22-2013 02:33 PM (01-22-2013 02:00 PM)J. Beckert Wrote: Huey Long? Or was he Governor at the time? He was U.S. Senator from Louisiana at that time. My trivia question is: What U.S. Congressman is the only one to be assassinated while still serving in the House of Representatives? Congressman Ryan was killed while on an invesitigative visit to the infamous Jonestown. Is this the one, Laurie? Laurie, I am changing my answer since Ryan's death in Jonestown was not technically an assassination. There was a southern congressman that was targeted and assassinated by the KKK a few years after the end of the Civil War. I cannot recall his name. I just finished reading A Thousand Lives, and it scared the hell out of me to think that a thousand people could follow such a nut case to their deaths. Joe, the author gives Ryan's death as an assassination. Why do you disagree? RE: Extra Credit Questions - LincolnMan - 01-22-2013 09:38 PM I asked a 23 year old staff member at the hospital yesterday if she knew what "Jonestown" was. She had no idea. She didn't know the phrase: "Let's all drink the Kool Aid" either. That incident was only back in 1979, right? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Laurie Verge - 01-23-2013 12:03 PM I think it was allowed to die a speedy death because the U.S. government failed to fully investigate that compound/cult until it was too late. Relatives of those living there begged for help long before Leo Ryan did his investigative trip. The Guyana government was also involved with bribery, etc. |
