RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 12-31-2012 09:22 AM Right, Joe! I thought that might be a hard question, and it lasted all of 10 minutes. Indeed it was Joseph P. Lindley. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rogerm - 12-31-2012 09:27 AM Does anybody know what "first" took place during the presidency of James Buchanan? He was the first unmarried President, but I bet you are looking for something else. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rogerm - 12-31-2012 10:03 AM Good answer. But, I actually had something else in mind. It had something to do with his inaugural. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Laurie Verge - 12-31-2012 10:06 AM I'm lousy at these trivia questions, but I think I might know the answer to this one -- was Buchanan's Inauguration the first to be photographed? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rogerm - 12-31-2012 10:20 AM Yes, Laurel!! You're right. The only prize I can offer you is the satisfaction of having the right answer. Sorry. lol RE: Extra Credit Questions - Laurie Verge - 12-31-2012 12:13 PM Satisfaction is all I need since trivia questions are my downfall! RE: Extra Credit Questions - LincolnMan - 01-03-2013 06:36 PM Well, here I am with Mr. Lincoln-as you can see. What year was the photo of A.L. taken? Where? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Gene C - 01-03-2013 07:07 PM Based upon your avitar, I'll say 12 years ago in Ft Wayne IN RE: Extra Credit Questions - LincolnMan - 01-03-2013 07:33 PM No, what I meant was: the picture of Lincoln-when was his picture taken-and where? RE: Extra Credit Questions - BettyO - 01-03-2013 07:53 PM Wasn't that photo taken during the Lincoln/Douglas debates? By the way, great photo, Bill! RE: Extra Credit Questions - JMadonna - 01-03-2013 08:41 PM BTW - Buchanan was also the first president-elect to survive an assassination attempt (poison at the National Hotel). Here's a question that I don't know the answer to: The arched entryways of Ford's theater are whitewashed white. What was the original color of the brick on the night of the assassination? RE: Extra Credit Questions - J. Beckert - 01-03-2013 08:55 PM This was taken a few days after, so I'm going to assume it was always white. I know the roof joists were exposed and unfinished at the time, (As can be seen in the photo), but I wonder, with all the mud, why they would paint the archways white? RE: Extra Credit Questions - JMadonna - 01-03-2013 09:41 PM That's what I thought but I googled 'postcard Fords theater' and found that at some point the arches were the same color as the brick. I guess the cards were touched up because the same picture shows the building in a yellow-brown brick and a red brick. Got to assume that your picture with the black bunting was taken during the mourning period for Lincoln. Guess that resolves it. |
