I've been to both cities. The area there contains the White Mountains-spectacular hiking and other outdoor opportunities. In fact, I was there in early May-and it snowed!

What did Lincoln receive as a Christmas gift when the family crossed over from Kentucky to Indiana? Give some thought to this one. It's not what you may think. This will be the only clue.

Rob, I am clueless on this one, so I will have to make a guess. An Ax?Big Grin

Good guess, Craig, but no it wasn't a vampire-eradication device. Big Grin

(12-23-2012 03:28 PM)RJNorton Wrote:  How about it, Joe! That's it. Lincoln spoke there on March 1, 1860. He was also in Dover for a speech the next day, but on the map it looks to me that Concord is very slightly north of Dover. If anyone finds that Lincoln was ever north of Concord while in New England then I stand corrected on this question.

Here is where Lincoln spoke while he was in Concord (Phenix Hall), and where his headquarters were (The Phenix Hotel)

Thanks, Craig. The book I used said that prior to Lincoln's speech in Concord he was introduced by another speaker as "The Next President." Lincoln was so surprised at the introduction that he made no comment; later, however, he asked if the speaker really meant it.

Why am I thinking a pocket knife?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - LincolnMan - 12-25-2012 05:38 PM

A dog?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rob Wick - 12-25-2012 07:25 PM

Sorry guys. Both are completely logical guesses, but not correct.

A copy of Aesop's Fables?

He was only about seven when they moved.
Socks?

I'm going to have to call this one, because any clue I might give will give it away.

It was a trick question. The answer is nothing. Read this post from the superintendent of the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial.

Told you the answer isn't what you might think. Big Grin

To give you an idea of the hardships early pioneers like Lincoln faced in the cold winters in a log cabin without a woodstove, what item, if left out on the mantel, would freeze?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - Laurie Verge - 12-26-2012 12:44 PM

Probably a dumb blonde answer using a question, but does gunpowder freeze?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - J. Beckert - 12-26-2012 01:23 PM

Not unless it's wet. This is something you might have on your night stand every night. A common household thing.

Also, if you say the secret word in your reply, you win $100.
