Booth

Yes, Joe! Good job. The source for this is Asia Booth Clarke's memoir (1938) published many years after her death (1888).

No Googling, please. Who described Lincoln as "the queerest old cuss you ever saw"?

RE: Who Said This? - RJNorton - 04-11-2024 07:07 PM

John Nicolay?

RE: Who Said This? - J. Beckert - 04-11-2024 07:41 PM

That's a negative, PMOTI. Please come back and try again......

I suppose someone who was much younger? A soldier?

RE: Who Said This? - AussieMick - 04-12-2024 04:56 AM

Seward? ( in earlier years)

RE: Who Said This? - J. Beckert - 04-12-2024 06:40 AM

Dr. Eva is the closest so far! This person was younger, but was not yet a soldier. That came later.

Was it Robert Lincoln?

RE: Who Said This? - J. Beckert - 04-12-2024 10:02 AM

Yes it was, Roger! Great job. During a hazing while attending his first year at Harvard, Robert was asked about his then presidential candidate father and that's how he described him.

I just watched an outstanding clip by Jason Emerson that dispels many myths about RTL. You can watch it here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-Hn0BaYe7I&t=16s

Who described Lincoln thus ... 'a man of very small account in every way'

googling is ok

RE: Who Said This? - AussieMick - 04-28-2024 07:11 AM

He was not born in the USA

RE: Who Said This? - AussieMick - 04-28-2024 02:30 PM

He was a journalist and activist with 2 sons in the Confederate army.

RE: Who Said This? - AussieMick - 04-28-2024 04:28 PM

He wasn't born there, but he came from Van Diemen's Land

Well, according to my Google search, the answer appears to be John Mitchel. However, I would be lying if I said I had any idea who he was other than what I read online.
