What is it? ![]() RE: Extra Credit Questions - Steve - 01-18-2025 06:51 PM The murder of Elijah Lovejoy by a proslavery mob. RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 01-19-2025 04:00 AM Excellent, Steve! Yes, the image depicts the mob attacking the warehouse in Alton, Illinois, where Elijah Lovejoy's printing press was stored. The event happened on November 7, 1837. Lovejoy was a minister and abolitionist newspaper editor, and he was shot and killed by a pro-slavery mob which attacked the warehouse and destroyed the printing press. Abraham Lincoln was critical of mob violence in his 1838 Lyceum Address. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rob Wick - 02-15-2025 07:37 PM No googling, please. Abraham Lincoln did this at least nine times, leading all other presidents. What did he do? Best Rob RE: Extra Credit Questions - Steve - 02-15-2025 09:00 PM Visit troops in the field? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rob Wick - 02-15-2025 09:14 PM Good guess, Steve, but that's not it. Best Rob RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 02-16-2025 04:20 AM Visit hospitals? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rob Wick - 02-16-2025 08:25 AM Another good guess, Roger, but incorrect. According to my source for this question, what Lincoln did wouldn't have the same effect as it did in his time. Best Rob RE: Extra Credit Questions - Gene C - 02-16-2025 09:10 AM I had a guess that I wasn't sure it was right, so I googled it to check. I was wrong, but what I found out was interesting to me, so I thought I'd share it with you. (How many times did Lincoln quote from the Bible in his public speeches?) ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S SECOND INAUGURAL ADDRESS was delivered on March 4, 1865, to a nation convulsed in the dying gasps of the Civil War. To the surprise of his audience, in only 701 words, Lincoln mentioned God 14 times, quoted Scripture four times, and invoked prayer three times.
