RE: Springfield Tour - Anita - 07-19-2020 06:04 PM If there's a window where it's safe to take take this tour, seize the moment! I am so fortunate to have booked last Fall's trip. Earlier this week I was picking up the den when I came across goodies from the tour. I became absorbed in the collection of photos, Joe's itinerary and informational handouts along with brochures, pamphlets, maps, postcards, and ticket stubs. One moment I was in the den and the next I was in Springfield reliving those amazing three days. It was the best "stay at home" adventure. Gene, when we visited New Salem on the last tour there were some amazing quilts on display. Do you have any photos or information on them? Rob recently started an thread on quilting including some references to quilting during the Civil War https://rogerjnorton.com/LincolnDiscussionSymposium/thread-4356-post-81371.html#pid81371 RE: Springfield Tour - Gene C - 07-23-2020 11:36 AM Sorry Anita, I couldn't find any photos on the quilts. RE: Springfield Tour - Rob Wick - 07-23-2020 01:33 PM Anita, Was this it? Best Rob Edited to remove link, which obviously was not it. RE: Springfield Tour - Anita - 07-23-2020 03:07 PM Gene and Rob, Thanks for checking. I'll contact the New Salem Visitor Center when they reopen. RE: Springfield Tour - Gene C - 07-23-2020 03:19 PM I didn't know the Visitor Center was closed. The park and gift/book store is open. For more info check out the parks web site and face book page. http://lincolnsnewsalem.com/ https://www.facebook.com/Lincolns-New-Salem-State-Historic-Site-133051906718090 Looks like part of our Springfield Tour is a visit with nobody home. (They say the spirit of Ann Rutledge and Rowan Herndon's wife Elizabeth, wander the road through New Salem village) RE: Springfield Tour - Anita - 07-24-2020 02:23 PM Hoping for the best. RE: Springfield Tour - Gene C - 09-07-2020 09:38 AM Sad news, our Springfield Tour is postponed until next year. With the Covid 19 virus, so many places are operating with limited hours, or partially closed. The New Salem visitor center is closed, the gift shop is operating under limited hours, the park is open from 9-5. Events such as The New Salem After Dark have been cancelled this year. At the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, according to their web site, interactive touch screen exhibits are temporarily closed. The state guidelines for wearing masks and restaurant seating capacity keep changing. Following Lincoln's example in being patient, we will wait. It's better to be patient, than to be a patient. RE: Springfield Tour - LincolnMan - 09-07-2020 12:47 PM I agree Gene. Someday maybe Donna and I could attend if the virus vaccine is established and there wouldn't be too much walking. RE: Springfield Tour - Gene C - 03-14-2021 03:50 PM We are going to plan on a Springfield Tour in the early fall, sometime in September. Inside dinning will hopefully be back to normal by then, and the museums and parks should have normal hours. So get your vaccination and some comfortable walking shoes. RE: Springfield Tour - Anita - 03-14-2021 06:15 PM This is very exciting news! Maybe flying will be a better option in September. I'd love to be able to return for a second tour. Bill, I do hope you and Donna can make it someday RE: Springfield Tour - Eva Elisabeth - 03-16-2021 10:16 AM Hope I can make it one day. RE: Springfield Tour - mbgross - 03-22-2021 10:10 AM Sounds like fun! RE: Springfield Tour - LincolnMan - 04-12-2021 04:56 AM We still would love to go! RE: Springfield Tour - Gene C - 08-26-2021 12:12 PM Looks like we will put the trip this year on hold due to the health concerns regarding the covid virus. So, get your shots, wear your mask, wash your hands, and drink your ovaltine With that, just remember these words of wisdom from the Lone Ranger, the original "masked man" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9-o-YDcq6I (30 second spot) and - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVleNH8Zgys |
