RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 11-23-2023 05:13 AM

Michael, I am familiar with this image - it's Robert Lincoln's son, Jack. (Abraham Lincoln II)

RE: Extra Credit Questions - AussieMick - 11-23-2023 05:19 AM

well done, Roger.

I thought it might be taken quickly ... but it might also test people. I was going to give a clue by saying his name has appeared on the forum many, many, many times.

RE: Extra Credit Questions - AussieMick - 11-27-2023 06:58 AM

When did Lincoln put his name to the following and what caused it to be written ...

(No googling please)

"That there is nothing in the past history of the British government, or in its present expressed policy, to encourage the belief that she will aid, in any manner, in the delivery of continental Europe from the yoke of despotism; and that her treatment of Ireland, of O’Brien, Mitchell, and other worthy patriots, forces the conclusion that she will join her efforts to the despots of Europe in suppressing every effort of the people to establish free governments, based upon the principles of true religious and civil liberty."

This person's name is borne by US streets, parks, and towns.

RE: Extra Credit Questions - AussieMick - 11-28-2023 07:07 AM

Its said that when this person was in the US his popularity was much like that of Elvis in the 1960's.

RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 11-28-2023 07:54 AM

Does this have to do with the Marquis de Lafayette?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - AussieMick - 11-28-2023 05:01 PM

Roger, only in the sense that he was compared to Lafayette. ... and the naming of roads, parks and towns.

One of Lincoln's famous quotes supposedly uses words and a theme which had been used previously by this person.

He was a revolutionary.
