According to Google Alford, no correct answers yet...

If you both behave yourselves, I might give you a clue sometime tomorrow.

I believe Ida Tarbell was born and raised in that area of Pennsylvania. Does it have anything to do with her? Did he work for Ida Tarbell's father?

Wild guess: Was he a soldier (on furlough)?

Another wild guess:
Cale Marshall (alias Jim Phelps) was a secret detective for Lafayette Baker, like Andrew Potter. (Actually it is Andrew Porter, Roy Neff miss-typed his name, and that is why no one can find any record of him - think about it) As such, no physical records exist for Cale or Andrew, not even a form 1099.

Cale later went on to write about his experience through a popular TV show

Where is that little Rebel with the first hint? Let's get going here! Even I'm faster than this.

RE: "Stump the Yankee" - L Verge - 09-05-2013 08:19 AM

This little Rebel is at work, doing what she's paid to do. I am now taking a second to have more fun.

The hint: Cale and John Lloyd had something in common.

RE: "Stump the Yankee" - RJNorton - 09-05-2013 08:27 AM

I will guess that Cale Marshall was in the construction business and died of an accident that occurred on one of his building projects. He wasn't satisfied with some work that had been done and went up on a scaffold to inspect it. Near the other end of the scaffold flooring a load of bricks had just been deposited. As he reached the scaffold and stood on it, the boards gave way, and he fell to the ground. The bricks tumbling down upon him crushed his head, kidneys, and other parts of his body.

You are very warm, Roger, but the manner of death is not the link between Lloyd and Mr. Marshall.

Guess #1: They were both roundsmen?

Guess #2: They both had the same middle name - Minchin?

RE: "Stump the Yankee" - J. Beckert - 09-05-2013 09:20 AM

He was a carpenter or a barkeep.

Construction business, Lloyd...did he sell insurance policies?

RE: "Stump the Yankee" - L Verge - 09-05-2013 10:38 AM

Nope, nope, nope...

Hint #2: Think what part of construction they were both involved with.

A mason/bricklayer?

RE: "Stump the Yankee" - Eva Elisabeth - 09-05-2013 11:38 AM

A scaffolder? Or painter?

RE: "Stump the Yankee" - RJNorton - 09-05-2013 11:46 AM

I second Dave - bricklayer.
